ABBAYE DE VAULUISANT
Cistercian abbey on the banks of the Alain River, an address steeped in history and transformed into a modern farm.
Founded in 1127 on the banks of the river Alain, Vauluisant Abbey quickly became one of the most flourishing of the Cistercian order. The buildings still visible today therefore date from the 16th century. Reformed in the 17th century, it remained in place until the Revolution, when it was sold. The beginning of the 19th century was detrimental to it: it was largely demolished. Subsequently converted into a farm, Vauluisant became a modern farm. The visitor can still admire in particular the two gatehouses, the guest house and the chapel for foreigners, the outbuildings, the dovecote, the castle, which is a recovery of the building of the convers. Not to be missed, the admirable tithe barn with its superb cradle frame, which offers remarkable acoustics during the music festival held there every year.
Every year, the abbey is the setting for a festival, the Vauluisant Resonances Music Festival.
