REIGNY ABBEY
Abbey founded in 1128 and preserving an exceptional refectory with paintings from the beginning of the XIVth century, a superb site to visit.
the 5th daughter of Clairvaux, the abbey was founded in 1128 and retains an exceptional refectory with early 14th-century paintings. A 17th-century dovecote and building foundations can also be seen, including the foundations of the second abbey church, rebuilt in the 18th century by Yonne-born architect Claude-Nicolas Ledoux. Superbly restored, its scriptorium was transformed into apartments in the 18th century, some of which were frequented by Coco Chanel. A must-see site, between Auxerre and Vézelay. Gîtes are also available.
