Born on May1, 1633 in Saint-Léger-Vauban, the illustrious Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban was a marshal of France, an architect, an economist, an urban planner, a politician and even a philosopher. He was responsible for some 300 fortresses built throughout France for Louis XIV. Located in the house of the painter and sculptor Marc Hénard, who died in 1992 (and whose works adorn the abbey of Pierre-Qui-Vire and the village church), the Maison Vauban retraces the life and incredible career of this architectural genius.

Le musée semble très intéressant mais la personne à l’accueil étant aussi aimable qu’une porte de prison nous avons préféré faire demi tour.

Il est indispensable de visiter ce musée dans la ville natale de Sébastien Le Prestre. Les collections d’objets, documents et livres exposées dans cette ancienne maison morvandelle, permettent de découvrir les multiples facettes de ce personnage. En effet, si chacun connaît Vauban l’ingénieur militaire et son génie de la fortification, on découvre ici également Vauban l’économiste, Vauban l’humaniste ou encore Vauban l’écrivain et le réformateur, avec son projet de La dîme royale.

this small museum encloses the interest of the visitors with its exceptional scenography. you spend two hours and you enter a few times there after because it planes a pleasant atmosphere: vauban was, Gaulle was, a soldier who is " mixed with a view of the life civile" including Michel gear in the room " says; Vauban? " whose text is on sale, with many other works at home vauban. for information the birthplace of vauban are no more but by a tea difficult to find.
