Museums of Sens presenting all the historical masterpieces of Sens which are now gathered and visited at the same time.

All the city's historic masterpieces are housed in the "Musées de Sens": adjacent to the cathedral and its treasury (of inestimable artistic and historical value), you'll find the 13th-century Synodal Palace (restored by Viollet-le-Duc), the Archbishops' Palace (16th and 18th centuries) and the 1684 Orangery, with its small garden. Highlights include precious liturgical vestments, including the 8th-century chasuble of St. Ebbon and the 12th-century vestments of St. Thomas Beckett. Woven silks, tapestries, enamels, ivory, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares (such as the 12th-century Holy Shrine) all shine here. The synodal palace, with its dungeons and walls covered in ancient graffiti, and above all its magnificent rib-vaulted synod hall, is particularly worth a visit. The prehistoric, protohistoric and Gallo-Roman collections, as well as sculptures and paintings dating from the 15th to the 20th century, are complemented by the Marrey collection. There are also works by Brueghel, Boudin, Watteau de Lille and Rodin, and a unique collection of furniture by Raymond Sube and ceramics by Jean Mayodon. What's more, the Museums of Sens also host temporary exhibitions, events and workshops for children, escape games, international symposia...

Please note: Due to renovation work, the Museums of Sens will close their doors in December 2024, for at least one year. The cathedral will remain open to visitors.

We came Sunday and visited the museum, whose the entrance is free.
We were pleasantly surprised by the rich collections. prehistoric objects and gallo Roman, the cathedral treasure...we even returned the afternoon because the museum closed at mealtimes. We recommend this museum!
