Louis XIII and Renaissance-style château, with splendid frescoes and paintings, surrounded by a moat and superb parkland.
Surrounded by a moat and set in beautiful parkland, the château comprises several buildings. The small château, in the Louis XIII style, dates from the 17th century. The large château, built in the mid-16th century on the site of a former fortified castle, is a superb Renaissance structure. During the French League, it frequently hosted Protestant leaders. The château was home to the family of Admiral de Coligny (who had it built on the foundations of a former fortress), and was completed by Michel Particelli d'Hemery, Mazarin's superintendent of finance. At the end of the 17th century, this magnificent example of Renaissance architecture became the property of the Marquis de Tanlay, and has remained in the same family ever since. The interior boasts magnificent paintings and frescoes, as well as remarkable furnishings. And for those of you who are a bit of a softie, you're bound to recognize some of the settings from the film saga "Angélique Marquise des Anges"! And with good reason: several scenes from the first episode were filmed here, as well as numerous films and TV movies.
There are also a number of events taking place here throughout the season: from June to September, there are artist exhibitions, trails in July and September, concerts and theatrical evenings throughout the summer, as well as many other events. Last but not least, you'll find the very British Golf de Tanlay in the grounds of this beautiful park. One of the finest in the region!
