SAINT SULPICE CHURCH
Flamboyant Gothic church with granite altarpieces, miraculous statue and slate bell tower.
Situated at the foot of Fougères castle and listed as a Historic Monument, Saint-Sulpice church was founded in the 11th century and rebuilt in the 15th, 16th and 18th centuries. Built in the flamboyant Gothic style, it is one of the richest churches in Brittany. It features stained-glass windows by Fougerais master stained-glass artist Pierre Symon (16th century) and a nave framed like the hull of an overturned ship. Inside, two 15th-century granite altarpieces, Louis XV woodwork and a 13th-century miraculous statue of Notre-Dame-des-Marais. The pointed slate bell tower dates from the 15th century. A must-see!
