AINAY-LE-VIEIL CASTLE
Medieval castle of the XIVth century preserving its moat, its octagonal enclosure with towers and ramparts, its monumental chimney.
Nicknamed "Berry's Little Carcassonne", Château d'Ainay-le-Vieil is located on the Jacques-Cœur road, not far from Saint-Amand-Montrond. This extraordinary 14th-century medieval fortress has preserved its moat and imposing octagonal enclosure flanked by loophole towers and crenellated ramparts. The interior is richly decorated, blending the heritage of the Middle Ages with that of the Renaissance. Children are invited to dress up as knights or fair ladies. Children's tours are available on request.
