THE LARGE GARDENS OR PARK OF THE DUCHESS OF PORTSMOUTH
The Parc de la Duchess de Portsmouth (also called the Grand Gardens) was formerly the park of the Stuarts Castle. It was developed and enlarged in the eighteenth century by Louise Renée de Penancoët de Keroual, duchess of Portsmouth and Aubigny - mistress of Charles II, king of England, Scotland and Ireland but also secret agent of the King of France, Louis XIV). Designed by a disciple of Le Nôtre, it includes a French garden where you can admire beautiful alleys lined with charms. An English garden occupies the center of the promenade with its lawns, its masses and its numerous varieties of French and exotic trees and its beautiful group of marble, the Past and the Future.
Open every day of the year, from sunrise to sunset. Every year the French-Scottish holidays take place in this enchanting place… Would it also be a way to honor the memory of the one that Saint-Simon regarded as an adventurer?
