SAINT-PIERRE LE GUILLARD CHURCH
Built in the 13th century, this Gothic church offers a fascinating insight into the city's religious and architectural past.
This 13th-century Gothic edifice, located in the Auron district, is the city's only church built in the style of Saint-Étienne Cathedral, of which it is a contemporary. It has no transept, but an ambulatory with radiating chapels. Consecrated in 1230, its construction is said to have followed a miracle involving Saint Anthony of Padua and a wealthy local banker who financed it. Stained-glass windows and frescoes from the 15th and 16th centuries are on display, as is the tomb of Jacques Cujas. A must-see in addition to the cathedral.
