CAPUCHIN CEMETERY
The Cimetière des Capucins is home to several notable figures who have left their mark on local and national history.
This is the oldest cemetery in Bourges. It was created in 1792 from the amalgamation of several small cemeteries established around the Capuchin convent. The upper part of the cemetery is adorned with fine sculptures. The cemetery is the final resting place of a number of prominent figures: Bourdaloue, whose pyramid-shaped tomb recalls his role in digging the Suez Canal in Egypt; Michel de Bourges, a jurist and, above all, George Sand's lover; and Georges Hecq, an unknown tax collector whose friend Rodin created the bust that adorns his tomb.
