ALDERMEN'S HOTEL
A blend of architecture, municipal history and modern art, the Hôtel des Échevins de Bourges is a must-see.
Built in 1489 on the remains of the great fire of 1487, the Hôtel des Échevins stands on the Gallo-Roman walls of Bourges. This Gothic civil building, influenced by the Palais Jacques-Cœur, was the seat of the town council for three centuries. Restored, it now houses a museum dedicated to Maurice Estève, the famous painter from the Berry region and a major figure in the Nouvelle École de Paris, recognized by his elders such as Matisse and Picasso. During the Nuits Lumière festival, its facades become the stage for magical projections.
