NOTRE DAME CHURCH
The church Notre-Dame de Lignières dates from the twelfth century. Redesigned in the seventeenth century and enlarged in the nineteenth century, it was originally the chapel of the castle. It is accessed by a bridge, which is quite rare. Inside is the oratory of Jeanne de France. This is where King Louis XI's daughter was going to pray and it is here that she would have had the idea of creating the religious order of the Annonciades. A statue made from his mortuary mask represents her in a fashion of the order. It is said that his father Louis XI had a small chimney built in the oratory, so that his daughter did not get cold. A large canvas made for canonization of Jeanne de France (in 1950) is hung in the church, next to the oratory. Another curiosity of the church: a statue of breastfeeding virgin located in the abbey behind the choir.
