The "islands" of the Gargaude, the Sensitive Natural Area of the Department of Cher, owe their name to their situation before the 1970 s when the site was still a wooded island of the Loire. After being the headquarters of a sand and gravel operation from 1973 to 1981, the islands were gradually attached to the bank and thus to the Loire major bed. This evolution is combined with the natural evolution of the river course and the extractions of materials, which have led to a break of the river bed. Between the river and the river le Moule, the islands of the Gargaude extend over forty hectares and consist of an ancient exploitation of granulates, surrounded by a dry lawn on sand and a alluvial forest… A huge ecological wealth! Let yourself be guided by the explanations you will find along the trail.
