DENIM LINARD CATHEDRAL
A site registered as a historical monument, built with recycled materials, animals and gargoyles in clay.
This is a strange place to hide in the forest between Neuvy-Deux-Clochers and La Borne. Jean Linard created here «his cathedral» in the 1960 s and has never stopped adding more delusions. Built of recovery materials (bricks, bottles of bottles) and terracotta animals and gurgles, this cathedral surprises, amuses and inspires more dreams than religious sentiment (although…). In his lifetime, the artist artist welcomed visitors himself. Since its disappearance in early 2010, the cathedral remains open to the public. It has even been registered with historical monuments since July 2012. After the artist died, his family was forced to sell the place because she was unable to maintain the site. The association «Around the Cathedral of Jean-Linard» was then formed to maintain this exceptional site. Fine example of raw art, he lets us think of another artist of this style, the famous Cheval Cheval who was really a factor and who was truly Horse and whose 1932 André Breton would pay tribute through a poem entitled: The white hair revolver. His work - of which Jean Linard's is fully similar - is now known as the «Ideal Palace», and is considered a masterpiece of naive architecture.
