JEAN BAFFIER'S BIRTHPLACE
Go there and contact
Jean Baffier (1851–1920), at 13, fell awake in front of Nevers Cathedral. The child of this small commune - 160 inhabitants now - whose father was a winemaker, became a sculptor and writer. On the matter of the matter, we owe him the controversial Man Taureau and King Louis XI… The two statues are located in Bourges. Jean-Paul Marat and Jean-Jacques Rousseau had the honor of his burin. On the spirit side, wanting to preserve local heritage, it became a somewhat exhilarated regionalist, not to say frenzy. This passionate Berrichon founded in 1886 a magazine, Le Réveil de la Gaule, which lasted until 1912. The quest for traditional music and popular tales led him into nationalist and xenophobic drifts. His home is right next to the church.
