THE CASTLE
Castle located at the outports of the kingdom of France, facing the English possessions.
Located at the front gates of the Kingdom of France, facing the British possessions, the Château de Saint-Florent appears in the chronicles from the end of the xiith century. During the wars of religion, the castle has several seats and many devastation: he was attacked and looted in 1562. In 1625, the seigneury of Saint-Florent was sold to Henri II of Condé, prince of blood, governor of Berry. In 1646, Saint Florent returned to Louis de Bourbon, his son, the "Grand Condé", which leads the Berry into the civil war of the Fronde. The city escapes destruction and remains property of the Condé until 1727. The castle then knows several owners. Among them, Mr. Brunet at the end of the twentieth century transformed the ancient medieval fortress into the neo-Louis XIII castle: red brick coating, large balustrade terrace, elegant staircase. The pigeon was built by Henri de Condé and is due to architect Jean Lejudge. The xve century dungeon is listed in the inventory of historic monuments. Bought by the municipality in 1936, the castle now houses the City Hall.
