THE NEW PLACE
A pleasant place for a break in the heart of Sancerre, where you'll find the most artisans and tasting venues.
The market hall, built here in 1456, was replaced in 1883 by a heavy, unattractive building. No longer needed, it was removed in 1981. This square is home to the most artisans (potters and art galleries), as well as wine-tasting venues. In fine weather, restaurant terraces line this lively esplanade, day and night. In winter, it's the Christmas market, with its chalets and craftsmen, that takes over the square. A pleasant place to take a break in the heart of Sancerre.
