THE BUILDING
Once the gateway between the feudal castle and the town, this belfry is a source of amazement and pride for the town's inhabitants.
Belfries aren't just found in the north of France! The one in Vierzon was built in the 12th century. It was the gateway between the feudal castle and the town. For many years, this former watchtower served as a night shelter for passing travellers, until 1939, and as a prison until the Second World War. From 1819 onwards, the belfry housed the town clock dating from 1436, now on display in the Musée des Fours Banaux. The belfry is unique and part of the "Medieval Vierzon" guided tour offered by the tourist office.
