THE BERRY CANAL
An opportunity to go on river trips on electric boats or to walk on the canal.
A works of art dating from the beginning of the nineteenth century - from 1808 to 1830 - this 260 km long canal allowed the upper Loire River to be connected to Nevers. It was decommissioned in 1955 and has suffered since the ravages of time. After restoration work in the 1990 s, it was reopened partially to recreational navigation over a length of 2 km between Vierzon-Ville and Vierzon-Forges. River walks are offered through electric boats. The Berry Canal also offers Vierzon charming walks on the traces of the Bernese mariners and long fishing parties. In the heart of the city, the canal is flanked by Lucien Baufrère Square. Hiking tours are available at the tourist office.
