SQUARE LUCIEN BEAUFRÈRE
Square designed by Angevin architect Eugène-Henry Karcher, listed as a Monument Historique in August 1996, an Art Deco jewel.
This square, listed as a historic monument in 1996, was designed in the Art Deco period (1925-1935) by Eugène-Henry Karcher. The first square in the city to be lit by electricity, it is also known as the Jardin de l'Abbaye. This peaceful spot, bordering the Canal de Berry, pays tribute to Vierzonnais savoir-faire with its wrought-iron and Denbac tiles. At the entrance, inaugurated in 1933, stands an auditorium or kiosk-washhouse with stage, orchestra pit and dressing room. This superb Art Deco example leads to the romantic garden, where a variety of tree species flourish.
