The airport is located less than 30 km southwest of the capital. Long used mainly for domestic flights, a new runway, opened in 2010, has made it possible to increase the number of international flights. It is now Asia's 3rd largest airport in terms of passenger flows. To get there, you have to take the monorail at the Hamamatsu-chō station located on the Yamanote line. The journey takes about 20 minutes and costs ¥500. From Shinagawa, there is also a direct line to Haneda, the Keihin Kyūkō, which runs for ¥300 in less than 20 minutes.

TOKYO SAKURA TRAM

Getting around by streetcar

The Toden, recently renamed Tokyo Sakura Tram, serves the north of Tokyo from east to west. It runs near Ikebukuro or Waseda, and makes a long trip to Minowabashi, not far from Asakusa. In doing so, it passes through many lesser-known and more popular neighborhoods, which have been undergoing major changes in recent years. There are nice walks along the streetcar, around Zoshigaya in the west or Arakawa in the east. Lined with beautiful roses during most of the year, the line is an attraction in itself.

BUS AMPHIBIE SKY DUCK

Boat and ferry

The Skybus group offers many sightseeing tours by bus, or, for a little extra originality, by amphibious bus. Without moving from your seat, you can go from water to road on several routes in Tokyo Bay: one in the east, around the Sky Tree, one in the center, which runs in the middle of Ginza, and two others in the vicinity of the artificial island of Odaiba and the Toyosu market. The rides offer great views. We particularly recommend the Odaiba tours for an outing with friends or family.
