Corsica is well known as the island of beauty! In the south of France, in the heart of the Mediterranean, Corsica enchants us. This mountainous island offers a rare natural heritage, its strong identity and an authentic culture, without forgetting a crystal clear sea. We go there to sail, sailboat, swim, dive, surf, hike... You can enjoy the landscapes and indulge in idleness without which Corsica cannot really be appreciated. We take the time for an aperitif and a meal of local delicacies that lasts. A miniature continent, Corsica offers its exoticism just a stone's throw from the metropolis. South Corsica, in the southwest of the island, is approached by Bonifacio built on the side of a cliff, on a narrow promontory. Bonifacio with its port is the most touristic city of the island. In the south of the island, the citadel of Porto-Vecchio, city of salt with its salt pans still in operation, is the major tourist attraction of southern Corsica with its old town, its port and its beaches. You will not miss Ajaccio, Napoleon's birthplace, a former Genoese city where you can visit prestigious museums and buy Corsican products on the market. In the heart of the Gulf of Valinco, Propriano, a small marina and fishing port, and at the same time a seaside resort at the gates of the scrubland, does not lack charm. Finally, in the north of South Corsica, on the west coast, the romantic Calanques de Piana, all of orange-red granite whose eroded rocks draw sculptures, deserves its classification as a Unesco World Heritage Site.
When to go to South Corsica? If the crowd of tourists annoys you, avoid the very tourist season, from early July to late August. Especially since the climate in Corsica is pleasant from April to November, and the great sunny weather is guaranteed from May-June to mid-September. A few nuances, however. It is generally warmer at Cap Corse than at Bonifacio. The air is always cooler in the mountains, at least from 500 m above sea level, than on the coast. Provide a small wool in the interior of the country. Beware of brief but violent storms that break out in the interior often in the summer, causing sometimes devastating floods and violent rivers. Nevertheless, rains are rare with barely fifty days of rain per year. Sometimes the wind blows very strong. Don't forget that in spring, the scrubland is in bloom. An enchantment. In autumn, they are flamboyant colours in the forest and chestnuts and mushrooms to pick. Precious indication: the sea temperature (on the coasts) is on average 15 °C in winter and 25 °C in summer.
Corsica has a Mediterranean climate, with a southern latitude, pleasant all year round. The island has 300 days of sunshine per year and an average temperature ranging from 15.5°C in winter to 28°C in summer. In autumn, especially on the coast, maximum temperatures are around 26°C in September, 20°C to 22°C in October and 17°C in November. Spring is also pleasant with 17°C in April and over 24°C to 26°C in June. Sometimes the Mistral wind blows and violent thunderstorms occur.
