Arrive in Auckland, then 2 hours drive to Matamata on one of the best preserved sites of the trilogy: Matamata, who houses The Shire site, says Hobbiton. Lunch at Shire Rest where many goodies are found elsewhere (the Lord of the Rings beer, Ian Brodie's guide, etc.).
