Day 1: Architectural heritage
Steps: Nájera, San Millán De La Cogolla, Santo Domingo De La Calzada
Santo Domingo de la Calzada, Nájera and San Millán de la Cogolla: separated by 20 km, these three stops offer an excellent overview of La Rioja's architectural and religious heritage. Santo Domingo de la Calzada, an important stage on the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, is well worth a visit for its sumptuous cathedral, with its blend of Gothic, Baroque and Plateresque styles. In Nájera, another stop on the pilgrimage, you can visit the monastery of Santa María la Real, home to the pantheon of the ancient kingdom of Navarre. Finally, in San Millán de la Cogolla, you'll discover the Yuso and Suso monasteries, listed as Unesco World Heritage sites.
