How to get there

Mercado Central, Plaza de la Virgen and Barrio del Carmen

Plaza de la Virgen.

Steps: Valence

After setting up in Plaza del Ayuntamiento, the nerve centre of Valencia, take advantage of the morning to explore the modernist Mercado Central, Europe's largest fresh produce market. Just outside the market, you will find the Lonja de la Seda (Silk Hall), a superb civil Gothic monument declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After lunch, head for Plaza Redonda, a charming medieval square where the stalls sell doilies and lace. A little further on, you will find the Plaza de la Virgen, where you can admire the Cathedral of Valencia, the Basilica of the Virgen de los Desemparados and the Miguelete, three of the city's most emblematic historical monuments. Take the opportunity to take a break for a snack in one of the century-old horchaterias in Plaza Santa Catalina, located just next door. At aperitif time, head for Barrio del Carmen, the epicentre of Valencia's nightlife, to enjoy its terrace bars, trendy restaurants and musical bars.

Turia Gardens, Cabanyal and Fiesta

Façades de Valence.

Steps: Valence

Climb by bike, towards the Turia gardens, a green flow of several kilometres that allows you to reach the Cité des Arts et des Sciences directly from the city centre. If you do not wish to spend the day there, we recommend that you only visit the Oceanogràfic, the largest aquarium in Europe. On the other hand, you can admire Santiago Calatrava's futuristic architecture by walking along the city from the Turia gardens. Then, head for the coast to enjoy a nice paella in one of the seaside restaurants, followed by a relaxing afternoon at the beach or a stroll in the picturesque Cabanyal district. In the evening, join the port for a cocktail at Vivir sin dormir or to party all night long in the Las Animas club. By the way, be sure to take a look at the Veles e Vents building, a beautiful example of modern architecture by David Chipperfield.
