How to get there

Discovery of the historical centre.

Dans les rues de Naples.

Steps: Naples

On your way to the National Archaeological Museum, pass by the Academy of Fine Arts, which is housed in the former 17th-century convent of San Giovanni Battista delle Monache. At the museum, visit the aisle of Greek and Roman sculptures from the Farnese collection. After ancient art, discover contemporary art at MADRE. The museum is housed in the historic palace of Donna Regina. Walk through the Centro Antico : admire the church of Santa Chiara and the cathedral, then walk through Spaccanapoli, one of the most typical districts in the heart of Naples, with its narrow streets, churches, numerous cloisters and chapels. Afternoon shopping and antique shops: take a stroll along Via Toledo and its many shops. Stop to see the Umberto I Gallery, then head towards the majestic Piazza del Plebiscito, where the great symbols of Naples follow one another: the Basilica of San Francesco di Paolo, the Salerno Palace, built at the end of the 18th century, and of course, facing the arcade, the Royal Palace. Continue to the Chiaia district and wander through the chic and trendy streets of via Chiaia and via dei Mille. Then finish with the gardens of Villa Comunale.

Vesuvius Park

Musée de Capodimonte.

Steps: Naples

Take the Circumvesuviana to visit the Vesuvio Park. This volcano, with its intense seismic activity, was responsible for the destruction of Pompeii andHerculaneum in 79. In spite of the terrible eruptions it has had in the past, it is still dear to the hearts of all Neapolitans. Climb the crater to see the fumaroles and the splendid panorama of the area. Then head for the archaeological sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Visit the ancient city of Pompeii and in Herculaneum, smaller but no less interesting, admire the exceptional quality of conservation of the thermal baths and the various residences.
