Accommodation is very expensive in the Netherlands, and even more so in Amsterdam. A large part of your budget will be devoted to it. It's hard to sleep for less than €115 in a double room.

Prices shown include VAT. However, an additional tourist tax must be paid locally.

The hotel business has improved a lot in recent years, and we've tried out some of the designer hostels that offer every comfort! Cities such as The Hague, Rotterdam and Eindhoven offer attractive prices at weekends, when the business clientele has left.

To be booked

The Netherlands, and Amsterdam in particular, are on a roll. We don't recommend going on an adventure without an overnight stay: you'll pay dearly for it! Plan ahead if you're going on an event, such as King's Day.

Accommodation on the Wadden Islands is particularly popular on long weekends in spring and summer: plan your stay well in advance.

What's very local

Stayokay is the banner under which youth hostels are grouped throughout the country. It's a guarantee of quality, often with nice, welcoming places.

The Social Hub is an exciting Dutch chain, mixing student accommodation with hotel rooms that are comfortable and often quite playful. Addresses to help you travel without breaking the bank.

For food lovers

Dutch breakfasts are full and varied. Dairy products, breads, cheese, cold cuts and fruit... You'll be spoilt for choice and often won't even need to eat breakfast!

Smokers

The hotels are also non-smoking.

Tourist traps

Some of the addresses in the Red Light District are of uncertain comfort and sometimes even of dubious probity.
