Practical information : Treat yourself (& others) Greece
Timetable
Shops are generally open from Monday to Saturday, from 8am to 8pm, with a closing period at lunchtime. However, opening hours are adapted to the number of tourists: it is not uncommon for a store to close at 10 pm or even later during the high season. Out of season, it is generally the opposite, with many tourist stores simply closed, especially on the coast.
Budget & Tips
You will find cheaper items in the markets or in the cooperatives where the locals go. Credit cards are generally accepted in all stores. Finally, smokers appreciate buying their pack of cigarettes half the price of those in France...
Sales
Greece loves sales in all 4 seasons!
wintersales take place from the2nd Monday of January until the end of February.
springsales take place from May1st to May 10th.
summersales take place from the2nd Monday of July until the end of August.
autumnsales take place from November1st to 10th.
What's very local
Bargaining is not really de rigueur in Greece. But a discount is sometimes offered if you pay in cash... Like the locals, stock up on fresh produce at the farmers' markets, fish markets or weekly stalls in towns and villages.
Tourist traps
Of course, counterfeits are not a good idea. It's easy to spot them: they are up to 10 times cheaper than the authentic products.
