RIOU ISLANDS
An island made up of six main islands and a dozen islets covering 162 hectares and featuring the Calanques National Park.
This archipelago is located in front of the Marseilles creeks, from the Cap Croisette des Goudes to off Podestat. It is composed of six main islands and a dozen islets, and extends over 162 hectares. It includes the eponymous island of Riou, the largest, aligned with the island Calseraigne (or the island Plane), off the cove of Podestat. But also the Jarre Island and the Jarron Island, practically connected to each other, located off the coves of Marseilleveyre and Mounine. Finally, Maïre Island and Tiboulen de Maïre Island are located very close to Cap Croisette in Les Goudes. The archipelago is uninhabited and is part of the Calanques National Park. These islands are a real sanctuary for many rare species, both animal and plant. It can only be visited by kayak or boat excursion, but access is strictly limited to the landing on the island of Riou, where there are only two marked trails. In its seabed, there are many shipwrecks and airplane wrecks that delight divers, making the place one of the most famous spots in the region.
