In Trieste, it is always best to make reservations, especially during the tourist season, that is, between the Easter vacations and the beginning of autumn, and in December. Outside of this period, last-minute reservations can sometimes lead to better prices. In the summer, the Adriatic coast is crowded with tourists, especially in August, as this is when Italians take their vacations. Hotels and campsites fill up quickly and prices go up. Finally, in the ski resorts, it is necessary to book your apartment or room in advance during the high season of winter sports and in August, the high summer season.

Agritourisms in the countryside allow you to get in touch with the local people and to approach the authenticity of the place. Often located in a quiet place in the middle of nature, they offer simple accommodation and a delicious breakfast with home-made products. Sometimes they also have a restaurant where the food is local and the meal is always cheap

In the mountains, the refuges welcome you in a rustic environment and always offer traditional recipes based on local ingredients and products.

For food lovers

Breakfast is often included in the price and usually consists of a continental buffet. For Italians, breakfast is the least important meal of the day. This is sometimes reflected in hotels that offer a rather plain buffet, with industrial croissants, bread and jam in individual portions. Fortunately, there are also many places that take care of the first meal of the day, with homemade cakes and artisanal products. The coffee, on the other hand, will always be good: ask for an espresso or a cappuccino so that you don't have to fall back on the self-service instant coffee at the buffet.
