LA TRAPPE D'ECHOURGNAC
Discover the oldest cheese in Périgord, born in 1868 at the abbey. A real delight to savour and discover in the store!
In 1868, the monks of Port-du-Salut founded the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Bonne-Espérance in Echourgnac. They set up a cheese dairy there, officially creating the oldest cheese in Périgord: La Trappe d'Echourgnac. In 1923, Cistercian nuns took over from the monks, and since then they have continued to make the cheese in the traditional way. They've even added walnuts and walnut liqueur, resulting in an original, highly flavorful cheese. In the store, you can discover products made on site and those from other monasteries.
