Memorial erected in honor of the anti-fascist patriots arrested and imprisoned in the Château du Sablou in Fanlac.
On the road between Fanlac and Montignac, it's impossible not to notice the stele and accompanying educational panels. This is the Sablou memorial, erected in honor of the "undesirable and dangerous" anti-fascist patriots, often trade unionists and communists, arrested and locked up in the Château du Sablou from January 17 to December 31, 1940. A veritable internment camp, it held 149 "Sablousards" from several French departments, before having them deported to North Africa when it closed. This modest site pays tribute to them.
