CHÂTEAU DE GAGEAC
From the top of the dovecote of this castle, you have a remarkable view on the vineyards
If you're on the wine route between Bergerac and Sainte-Foy-la-Grande, you'll want to make a detour to Gageac-Rouillac. The château, a watchtower dependent on Duras in the 12th century, was attacked by Du Guesclin's troops for five days during the Hundred Years' War in 1370, before being surrendered to the English. In the 17th and 18th centuries, this defensive castle was transformed into a residence. From the top of the dovecote, there's a remarkable view over the vineyards. Visit the château, park and cellars.
