PÔLE EXPERIMENTAL MÉTIERS D'ART
At first it was an expensive experience to Pierre Giry, the mayor of Nontron. Given its success, it has become a tradition, and after Espace Paul-Bert, the art professions found their own place in the Nontron castle, a 18th century mansion, which overlooks the Jardins des Arts and the Bandiat valley. Three large exhibition halls are fully devoted to crafts. They highlight contemporary creations from ancestral skills: turned wood art, ceramic and stained glass art, tapestry contention, contemporary mosaic, engraving, brassware, woodwork, design, etc. without forgetting the Espace Lames et Métaux dedicated to art knife, design and innovation in the world of cutlery. The objective of Pole Expérimental Métiers d'Art de Nontron is to support the economic and cultural development of the Métiers d'Art sector existing in Nontron, in the Nontronnais region, the Périgord-Limousin regional nature park and Pays Périgord Vert. This development concerns the heritage restoration trades, traditional crafts and creation trades. Three types of business are concerned, very small workshops, small and medium enterprises and luxury industries of the business art sector. All year succession of conferences, meetings, demonstrations, classes, workshops for adults, children or family (stone-cutting, carvings, leather working, weaving, ceramics, stained glass, enamel) and also shows. A shop sells designer pieces and craftsmen and each month a creator is honored.
