A not-to-be-missed winter event in Périgueux, the controlled truffle market offers the finest specimens for sale.
The truffle market is an exceptional event, usually starting in late November/early December. In February, before the market closes, La Fête de la Truffe takes place. In summer, Francis Delpey, owner of the delicatessen L'Espace du 6e sens, organizes a summer truffle market on the Place Saint-Silain. Winter or summer, truffles are a big event in Périgord when they appear: sometimes all it takes is a little investment to flavour many an omelette. They can be vacuum-packed, frozen or preserved in oil.
