ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH
The most beautiful church on the Vézelay route, with a polychrome wooden altarpiece and a single-bay nave.
One of the most beautiful churches on the Vézelay route! This magnificent 12th-century Romanesque-Byzantine church has a truly unusual layout, perhaps even unique in France. The church is arranged in a semicircle around the apse, and the nave consists of a single square bay, topped by an impressive dome. The main altarpiece is in polychrome wood. The south chapel features the recumbent tomb of Geoffroy de la Marthonie.
