SAINT-PIERRE-AND-PAUL CHURCH LIZONNE
Discover this church, a fortified Romanesque jewel in the Périgord region, with its ship's hull ceiling and portraits of saints.
The Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul church is one of Périgord's finest fortified Romanesque jewels. What remains of the 12th-century church is the forechoir and apse, topped by a defensive chamber installed during the Wars of Religion. The ceiling, painted in the shape of an upturned ship's hull in the 17th century, is remarkable and is listed as a Monument Historique. The portraits of Saints Peter and Paul were painted in the 17th century on the two doors of the sacristy. Treviso Prize 2020!
