L'ENCLOS MONASTIQUE
More than a thousand years of history, constructions in ruins, restoration, abandonment. A new project for the village of Tourtoirac.
The abbey of Tourtoirac is one of the oldest in the Périgord, it was built thanks to the Viscount GuiI of Limoges in 1003. Richly endowed, it became an important center of Benedictine life. Ruined during the Hundred Years War, then again during the Wars of Religion. In the 17th century, new buildings were erected in place of the cloister, of which some remains can be seen here and there. A circuit is outlined along a passage from Les Platanes in the south of the village to the abbey, passing under the bridge and arriving at the current town hall.
