ÉGLISE ABBATIALE DE TOURTOIRAC
An abbey church standing proudly in the centre of the village, built at the beginning of the year 1000 and which has survived the centuries with their ups and downs.
Tourtoirac Abbey, listed as a Monument Historique, was one of the largest monastic settlements in Périgord. The11th-century Romanesque barrel-vaulted chapel features astonishing acoustic amphorae. A chapter house, discovered in the presbytery cellars, is decorated with Romanesque capitals depicting dancing monks. The municipality and the Fondation du Patrimoine have launched a fund-raising campaign to finance major restoration work.
