MUSEUM OF THE KINGS OF ARAUCANIA
Museum featuring photos, royal insignia, decorations and orders from the Kingdom of Araucania, jewelry, souvenirs...
Antoine de Tounens, a Perigordian from Tourtoirac, set sail for Patagonia in 1825. The son of a farmer, he left his native Dordogne in 1860 and rallied the Mapuche tribes of southernmost America. They proclaimed him king in 1860 as Orelie-Antoine I, first king of Araucania and Patagonia. The museum features photos, including one by Antoine de Tounens, royal insignia and other souvenir decorations, and Mapuche objects - unusual in Périgord!
