MELLERAY ABBEY
Abbey of Melleray with gardens, housing an abbey church with 2 stone recumbents and a wooden statue of Saint Margaret
Built in 1142, the remains include a red sandstone porch in the gardens, and a church consecrated in 1183. The cloistered buildings, currently inhabited by the monks, were renovated in the 17th and 18th centuries by architect Nicolas Portrait. A new, perfectly harmonized monastic guesthouse was built in 1991. The abbey church features two stone recumbent statues, those of Bonabes de Rougé and Bishop Henri II of Nantes, as well as a 13th-century wooden statue of Saint Marguerite.
