Cité du livre, housing a living library, 2 exhibition galleries, a 350-seat modular amphitheatre and a cafeteria

A fine example of the rehabilitation of a historic match factory, the Cité du livre has become a cultural crossroads not to be missed. The iron, glass, brick and stone architecture inspired architect P. Deslandes, who in 1989 delivered the Méjanes library, the initial core of the Cité du livre. Since 1993, this has been joined by exhibition galleries, an amphitheatre, premises for the IUT Métiers du livre et du Patrimoine, and a conference room. From 2023 to 2027, 3 phases of renovation work, involving the closure of the library, will enable the necessary and long-awaited renovation to take place.

Bibliothèque située dans une ancienne fabrique d'allumettes et juste a cote de la gare d'Aix en Provence. De nombreux événements y ont lieu et l'abonnement est très intéressant.

Cette "Cité du Livre" est installée dans un bâtiment intéressant du point de vue architectural et propose une offre complète en matière de culture. Il existe également à Aix une plus petite bibliothèque, située en plein centre ville, sur la Place de la Mairie, juste à côté de la Poste, dans laquelle on peut passer un agréable moment à lire la presse quotidienne et les magazines.
