ST. VICTOR'S ABBEY
Remains of a century monastery, one of the oldest in Marseille, with a crypt containing precious archaeological evidence
One of the oldest remains in the city. It was in the5th century that the monastery was founded and a chapel was created on the very site of the tombs of several martyrs, including Saint-Victor, who gave his name to the religious building. During its history, the abbey spread throughout the south of France and one of its abbots was appointed pope in 1362. Today, a visit to the site allows you to take the measure of more than 1,500 years of history and to discover the crypt, a bewitching place containing precious archaeological evidence.
