FÊTE DE LA SAINT-MARCEL (FÊTE DES TRIPETTES)
A traditional and unusual Var celebration to be discovered inland, in the charming village of Barjols.
It is the commemoration of the arrival in the village, in 1349, of the relics of the bishop Marcel, patron saint of the city and the appearance of an ox, a real godsend for the people in the middle of a famine. Each year, an ox is blessed in front of the church entrance and then walked through all the streets of the village, accompanied by villagers in period costume in front of the crowd chanting "tripettes! tripettes! ». The ox is solemnly sacrificed every 4 years.
