Restaurant with terrace under a medieval porch, serving Provencal cuisine with local produce. A good address.

In his medieval vaulted dining room or on the two covered terraces (dating from the 12th century), Robert Chiu, who has been at the helm since 1987, reinvents his Provencal cuisine with a blend of local produce. An example of an ideal meal? Bonito carpaccio with mint-lemon marinade, followed by homemade caillette provençale on a palet of panisse... Bold and ingenious! Right next door, La Cueva is a tapas bar/wine cellar, adjoining an art, decoration and curiosity store: a detour is a must. Open daily in summer, from 10 a.m. to midnight.

In the light of the very large number of people who were rejected after we had not booked, we felt privileged because without reservation we were found a further table outside the two services from 19 h 30 and 21 h 30. A very warm welcome from the first server, I ordered an amber beer, another server that asked me if it liked me told me that it was brewed in Bormes and without any advertising the since it was me who was the applicant giving me useful information. For once the child menu was not made up of chicken nuggets, white ham or bolognese spaghetti, the dish was served very quickly (very good for the children) risotto was excellent. For our part, my wife and I were a little longer but quite acceptable given the number of clients and the three servers that really didn't chaumaient. We took the formula at 29 flat + dessert, little choice but revelateur cooking made home. Bouche with a velvety et and a mousse moss, good eater I was stuck with the first dish that moreover was very fine, very balanced because the proportion of vegetables and féculent: calf lardé tomato sauce with zucchini, fennel carrots and a polenta cake, my wife was filled with a cod back and a risotto in the dry ink. Little more, in the child menu desserts are the same as for the menu, crunchy chocolate with a fairly rich passion jelly, well balanced and little sweet, for my wife a tartelette with a clementine marmelade that would, on the other hand, deserve a little more, a little disappointed at the background of tartelette in which the marmelade was asked, a little disappointed at the level of tartelette in which marmelade was asked. good. We really recommend this restaurant with an exceptional setting, beautifully decorated, very friendly service of the servers and not skipped, very good and copious kitchen and therefore good value for money think just to book because we had really great luck.

We were very disappointed with this Le Portaou restaurant that appeared nice by its setting, the very long service (2h for a main course and a dessert), the cuisine worthy of an ordinary brasserie and the price of a gastronomic restaurant (7th small kir, 22e the 1/2l rosé locales, £ 26 for a main course, dessert). Not ready to get there!!
