CLOCK TOWER
The tower located in Cogolin was built in basalt, a grey-black alveolate lava stone, and has a bell at the top.
At the top of the city, this old entrance of the fortified enclosure of the castle, razed during the wars of Religion, dates from the end of the XIIIth, beginning of the XIVth century. It was accessed by a ramp, then a drawbridge. A portcullis protected the village in case of danger. This tower was built in basalt, a grey-black alveolate lava stone, the rock on which the village of Cogolin was established. A bell was installed at the top of this tower in the second half of the 16th century. It is now in the bell tower of the parish church.
