ST. PAUL'S COLLEGE
Romanesque church in Gothic style, converted into a collegiate church in 1572 and home to one of France's finest collections of ex-votos.
Situated on the Place Saint-Paul, which has recently been completely restored, the construction of the church of Saint-Paul is attested to in 1182 by a document from Alphonse I, Count of Provence. The small Romanesque church was enlarged at the end of the 14th and beginning of the 15th centuries in a Gothic style by the bishops of Toulon who chose Hyères as their main residence. Established as a collegiate church in 1572, it also houses one of the most beautiful collections of ex-votos in France, 450 ex-votos have indeed been reinstalled. It is also endowed with superb stained glass windows and altarpieces.
