PORT CROS NATIONAL PARK
A park dedicated to protecting and presenting the natural land and marine heritage of Port Cros, in the heart of the Mediterranean.
Located in the heart of the Mediterranean off the coast of Hyères, the Port-Cros National Park aims to protect the natural land and marine heritage of its territory. A pioneer among marine parks, it is part of the European Natura 2000 network. The heart of the park extends over 1,700 hectares of land and 2,900 hectares of sea, from the eponymous island to Bagaud, La Gabinière, the Rascas rock, part of the island of Porquerolles (1,000 hectares) and the surrounding waters. The boundaries of the protected area are defined by a 5-commune "aire d'adhésion", stretching from La Garde to Ramatuelle, and a second maritime area of 123,000 hectares. The Port-Cros National Park was created in December 1963. However, it wasn't until 2012 that a large part of the island of Porquerolles was included within its perimeter. Since 1979, the park has managed the Conservatoire Botanique National Méditerranéen de Porquerolles, whose mission is to record, survey and protect all the island's wild flora. The Parc national de Port-Cros receives almost 1.25 million visitors a year, making it one of the most visited parks in France. This high level of visitor numbers (between April and September) also implies a number of imperatives: the park's teams must make all visitors aware of this fragile environment, while at the same time taking steps to protect and discover the local heritage.

A magical place to discover
