Visit to discover Olbia, which is a fortress on the edge of the gulf and Giens and the only town of Greek origin in France.
A visit in the footsteps of the Phocaeans, the Greeks from Marseille who founded, in the middle of the 4th century B.C., a fortress on the edge of the Gulf of Giens. Called Olbia, this small city with a port was part of a network of fortified colonies and was supposed to protect ships on their way to Italy from piracy. In the first century B.C., Olbia came under Roman rule, but its economic activity continued. Today, it is the only city of Greek origin located in France to be preserved in its entirety and open to the public.
