THE MEDIEVAL VILLAGE OF FORT-FREINET
The fort dominates the only access road linking the Argens valley to the Gulf of Saint-Tropez
Overlooking the village, the fort dominates the only access road linking the Argens valley to the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. Ten years of archaeological excavations have revealed the remains of a fortified village from the Middle Ages. The remains of about thirty dwellings, carved out of the schist, are spread out on several distinct levels along the slopes of the rocky spur and are protected by a ditch 8 to 10 meters deep.
